More eyes to monitor Pre-University exams in Bangalore

Rattled by last year?s question paper leakage, the Pre-University Education Department (PUE) has decided to take extra precautions while conducting final examinations of second year PU courses, scheduled to be held from March 13 to 28.

Following the question paper leakage during March 2012 exams, the PUE this year has formed 280 teams across the state to visit examination centres.

?We have directed squad teams to visit each exam centre three times in a day. This time there is no chance for malpractice,? said Mattur, joint director, PUE department.

Compared to last year, when there were 180 teams, this year the strength has been increased to 280. In March 2012 exams, the department was forced to postpone the exams for Mathematics and Physics due to the leak.

The then director of PUE department Rashmi V Mahesh had registered a complaint and the government had transferred the case to the CID.

A total number of 6,13,718 students will be appearing for the second PU exams this year, as against 5.96 lakh in 2012.

Following the increase in the number of students, the department even increased the number of centres: the number of centres increased from 923 to 961.

?To accommodate the excess number of students, we had to identify new centres. Following that, we have given 38 extra centres,? said Mattur.

A total of 2,52,917 students will be taking the exams from the arts stream, which is the highest, followed by commerce with 1,82,069 and science with 1,78,732 students.
