American Association for Cancer Research
ANAHEIM, Calif. The American Association for Cancer Research will host the 11th Annual AACR International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research at the Hilton Anaheim from Oct. 16-19, 2012.
The conference will focus on both scientific and lifestyle strategies for preventing cancer. Hundreds of original scientific findings and premier lectures will showcase the state of the field.
To help plan coverage of the meeting, the AACR Communications and Public Relations Department has identified the following studies as being of potential interest to the media. Embargo times are noted on each release.
The following press conferences will be held in the San Simeon AB Room on the fourth floor of the Hilton Anaheim. Reporters who cannot attend in person can call in using the following information:

The first press conference will be hosted by program chairperson Cory Abate-Shen, Ph.D., the Michael and Stella Chernow professor of urological oncology and associate director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center. The press conference will be held at 7:30 a.m. PT on Wednesday, Oct. 17, and will feature the following abstracts:
- Updated Results From the Physicians' Health Study II to be Presented at AACR Prevention Meeting
- Prolonged Formula Feeding, Delay in Solid Foods Was Associated With Increased Risk for Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
- Education About Risk Factors for Both Cancer and CVD Led to Increased Fruit Consumption in Targeted Population
- Increased Flavonoid Intake Reduced Risk for Aggressive Prostate Cancer
Ernest Hawk, M.D., M.P.H., vice president and head of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will host the second press conference at 7:30 a.m. PT on Thursday, Oct. 18. The press conference will feature the following abstracts:
- Hay Fever, Asthma Combination Linked to Lower Risk for Death From Colorectal Cancer
- Compound's Dual Action Inhibited Oral Cancer
- Green Tea Reduced Inflammation, May Inhibit Prostate Cancer Tumor Growth
- Breast-feeding Reduced Risk for ER/PR-negative Breast Cancer
Conference leaders have also identified the following studies as potentially noteworthy for the press:
- Depression and Shortened Telomeres Increased Bladder Cancer Mortality
- African-Americans, Economically Disadvantaged Populations More Likely to Present With Emergency Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis
- Two Components of Red Meat Combined With Alteration in DNA Repair Increase Risk for Bladder Cancer
- Routine Screening for Cervical Cancer Low Among Lesbian Community
- Adhering to Lifestyle Guidelines Reduced Cancer Mortality in Elderly Female Cancer Survivors
- High Levels of Estradiol, Progesterone During Pregnancy Associated With Increased Risk for HR-negative Breast Cancer
- Cessation Team Formulated in the Workplace Helped Motivate Cigarette Smokers to Quit
- Blood Hormone Levels Predicted Long-term Breast Cancer Risk for Postmenopausal Women
- New Noninvasive Test for Colorectal Cancer Shows Promise
- Mechanisms of Action for Green Tea Extract in Breast Cancer Prevention Identified
