Rio De Janeiro, July 8
Former Argentina international midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme is in talks with Flamengo about a possible move to the Brazilian club.
Riquelme announced his decision to leave Boca Juniors last Wednesday, hours after the Argentine team's 1-3 aggregate loss to Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores final, reported Xinhua.
Flamengo's interest in the 34-year-old will depend on the outcome of negotiations with Wolfsburg midfielder Diego, who has received an offer from the Rio de Janeiro outfit.
"Of course Riquelme is somebody that interests us," Flamengo's director of football Zinho said Saturday. "He is a wonderful player and Flamengo opens its doors to him.
"After hearing the news about him leaving Boca Juniors I spoke with his agent to see if a deal was possible."
Diego's stocks rose sharply last season after playing a key role for Spanish club Atletico Madrid in their Europa League triumph.
"We have made a proposal for Diego. He is a player who commands a high salary and deservingly so. We'll wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if there is a response," Zinho said.
