Lakhei's Blog ? Blog Archive ? Check out The Salt of Life (2012 ...

Gianni Di Gregorio did wonders in theater and film for many years (co-writing, among other things, Matteo Garrones bleak Southwest florida crime survey Gomorrah), but came to pointing late, unveiling his debut guiding the camera in 2008, when he was just shy of age 60. Mid-August Lunch was a new stealthy success, a seemingly featherweight farce having an acid aftertaste that centered on a middle-aged bachelor who lives in the home and is forced by his financial straits to take in the elderly matriarchs of families going for summer holidays.

For his second hard work, The Salt Of Lifetime, Di Gregorio hasnt felt the necessity to stray far from his or her winning formula. He once again stars being a man named Gianni whos beneath thumb of a clingy, possessive mother (Valeria De Franciscis, who played an equivalent character in Mid-August Lunch time). This go-round, he has a better half and daughter who consider him equally for granted-he wakes your former up every morning hours with coffee, and allows the other to steal his breakfast time before he heads downstairs to walk 14 owned by his rather party-girl neighbor. Hes retired-or rather, was forced into first retirement-and has allowed himself to become an on-call handyman/errand-runner/financial doormat for all your women in his lifestyle. Hes worried about money and his very own mortality, though he tries to never let it show; Di Gregorio has some sort of handsome but hound-doggish face that produces him look like he or she hasnt slept well with years.

Di Gregorios principal concern isnt that a whole lot that those around your pet dont appreciate him, its that hes aging and is also afraid of being perceived as doddering and harmless. ?I dont want to go out and be merely another old man on the road, ? he tells a pal. Then he embarks over a few awkward attempts at flirtation which can be prompted as much by his dependence on women to take him or her seriously again as simply by actual lust. His mothers maid, the daughter of a vintage family friend, a bartender at a club-none advisors seem to even consider him as a lovemaking being, and the mental emasculation can be worse than being refused. The breeziness of The particular Salt Of Life hide a barbed consideration connected with mortality and being composed off, becoming part of the scenery in later life-just another elderly man that has a dog, watching the world pass by.

The women in Giannis living include his wife (Elisabetta Piccolomini), to whom he caters with breakfast during sexual intercourse but does not provide even the standard romantic interest; his college-student daughter (Teresa Di Gregorio, who is the directors real-life lady); his 96-year-old mother (Valeria de Franciscis Bendoni thats that age in real world and who is bankrupting the girl son); his moms caretaker, Cristina (Kristina Cepraga); and a pair regarding hot, fun-loving twin blondes whom hes just met (Laura Squizzato as well as Silvia Squizato). For one reason or maybe another, the women are unavailable. One must get upward early to catch some sort of plane to Paris, another had invited him over on a Sunday but spends everyday practicing vocals with a pianist. And so it should go. He rejects the tip of his women-seeking attorney at law friend Alfonso (Alfonso Santagata) to attend a bordello.
